This is for the general testing of MediaWiki formatting & for the creation of some sample pages.

Please ignore the ramblings on this page, or don't, and read on for samples of changes to come to our site.

Plan of attack

  1. Let's first mess with the "Flora" page
    1. Tease the people with a "garden walk....coming soon!"
    2. Solicit for a landscaping / gardening committee to create our garden walking tour.
  2. First, in the sidebar
    1. make new sections as described below
    2. requires a couple new pages, so let's link to the existing stuff first
  3. Next, on the homepage (Probably notoc on this page TBH)
    1. Create a new section for "governing documents" and consolidate existing links
      1. We can probably use # appending in the URL to link to headings or otherwise "fake it"
      2. Upload condo plans pdfs and link under governing docs
    2. News to the top with JPG of front page of this month's newsletter
    3. Tidy other existing sections
  4. Lastly, on child pages (The Gym, Financials, Minutes, etc.)
    1. enable TOC where reasonable & add heading titles
    2. add additional heading titles for TOC generation
    3. consolidate pages like Parking & Parking Policy
  5. Think of FAQ items & add them
    1. Especially links to Gov docs, etc
  6. Branding on pages, in general, with The Grove logo

Bonus Items:

  1. Make individual pages for Committees
    1. Links at bottom of The Board page
  2. Fix the 7607 number on the map
  3. Use "The Grove" logo for the logo in the upper left hand corner

The Sidebar

The Current Sidebar contains:
Home (http://eucalyptusgrove.org/index.php/Eucalyptus_Grove)
FAQ (http://eucalyptusgrove.org/index.php/Frequently_Asked_Questions)
Rules (http://eucalyptusgrove.org/index.php/Eucalyptus_Grove_Rules)

IMO it should contain:
Home (http://eucalyptusgrove.org/index.php/Eucalyptus_Grove)
Contact (http://eucalyptusgrove.org/index.php/Contact_Information)
FAQ (http://eucalyptusgrove.org/index.php/Frequently_Asked_Questions)
Feedback (New!, but for now here: http://eucalyptusgrove.org/index.php/Contact_Information)
Financials (http://eucalyptusgrove.org/index.php/Monthly_Financial_Reports)
Exterior Modifications (New!)

Exterior Modifications

On this new page we discuss limitations on exterior modifications.

  • May I install a satellite (TV reception) dish or other antenna?
Small satellite dishes may be placed on balconies or patios but must be free-standing - not attached to building. They must also remain within the boundaries of the unit's exclusive use common area.
  • What are the regulations for replacing the unit's front door?
New acceptable parameters for front door replacement: 1) Door must have 4 panels. 2) Glass (frosted or clear) is allowed but must be in the top 25% of the door. 3) Size of the glass cannot be taller than 12”. 4) Door must be painted white on the outside.

FAQ

Eucalyptus Grove > Frequently Asked Questions

(In my opinion, we should have a TOC on this page, currently it does not.)

Frequently asked questions about the Eucalyptus Grove:

  • Your Question here?

Flooring must comply with California Building Code Section 1206.3, as follows: all floor coverings between units must meet an Impact Insulation Class (IIC) of 45 as determined by the test procedures in ASTM E492 - This should be part of the flooring manufacturer's documentation - when requesting approval for new floors, be sure to get that from your contractor or retail sales person and include their compliance information. Governing Documents

We need to present the following documents:

Rules

http://eucalyptusgrove.org/index.php/Eucalyptus_Grove_Rules

This page should have a quick overview of things like: quiet hours, links to parking, links to pool, gym, etc pages.

Should also reference 2015 resident guidelines

A few Redirects Around the site.

Can be viewed here, and are likely because pages were renamed: eucalyptusgrove.org/index.php/Special:ListRedirects

All seem to be functional, but we need to be careful of old nomenclature as we move forward.

MainPage

For whatever reason our mainpage has been changed from "mainpage" to the "Website Administration" page:

http://eucalyptusgrove.org/index.php/Website_Administration

This may be a desired "cleanup" step to change this redirect here:

http://eucalyptusgrove.org/index.php?title=Main_Page&redirect=no

Technically mainpage should be the landing page, instead we're landing on:

http://eucalyptusgrove.org/index.php/Eucalyptus_Grove

Probably not a deal-breaker, but something we should consider.

Formatting Tips

Ignoring Markup for the purpose of demonstration on this page

Text is preformatted and
markups cannot be done

Empty line for new paragraphing

Alternatively use <br/>

List Formatting

* for Bullets
# for Numbers
; and : for Definition Lists
: for Indents

Combine them like this:

  1. one
  2. two
    • two point one
    • two point two
  3. three
    three item one
    three def one
  4. four
    four def one
    this looks like a continuation
    and is often used
    instead
    of <br />
  5. five
    1. five sub 1
      1. five sub 1 sub 1
    2. five sub 2

Linking Between Pages

Why do some pages have "Eucalyptus Grove > Meetings" (for example) across the top?

name of page
display text

The Gym
The Front Gate

The Temple of Iron
The Portcullis

Categories are also probably cool

:Category:name of category

Collapse / Expand Sections

tl;dr - maybe a bit more trouble than they are worth, maybe a table instead?

Button:

Collapsed
<span class="mw-customtoggle-1" style="font-size:12px; line-height:1.6; display:inline-block; float:right; margin: 6px;"><span class="mw-customtoggletext" style="border-radius: 10px; background:#5f5f62; color: #ffffff; padding: 6px">[Show/Hide]</span></span><br/>
<hr style="overflow: visible;"/>
<div  id="mw-customcollapsible-1" class="mw-collapsible mw-collapsed">
Collapsed content in here.
</div>
<br/>

Note that mw-customtoggle-0 must be unique for each section, or else the button click will toggle other sections open.

This is kind of annoying and means that each section needs to be unique....

mw-customtoggle-YYYYx
Wherein YYYY is the 4-digit year.

and x is the type:
a - for Agendas
f - for Financial statements
m - for Minutes
t - for Treasurer's Packet

So we have mw-customtoggle-2022a to collapse the Agendas Section for 2022.

Alternatively:

[Show/Collapse] Header

Collapsed Text Here

Unfortunately the [Show/Collapse] shows up in the title

What about Images?

Learn how to do the slideshow galleries.

Galleries:

<gallery>

File:Example.jpg|a link to Help:Contents
File:Example.jpg
File:Example.jpg|alt=An example image. It has flowers
File:Example.jpg|italic caption
File:Example.jpg|Links to external website|link=https://example.com
File:Example.jpg|link=w:Main_Page|Internal link
Example.jpg|on page "PAGENAME"
File:Using Firefox.pdf|page=72
</gallery>

A sample gallery:

Now with some size modifications:

How to get an image to not wrap with text:

There are many towering Bluegum Eucalyptus trees in the Grove.

Inline:
The caption is only hover text.

Inline with mods:

Now the caption is presented.

Thumbnails:
Sometimes thumbnails get placed in odd places...

...like our Pool over here. Which will right-justify by default.

Thumbnails:
So we can justify it on the page perhaps?

What happens with a fair amount of junk text? The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.

Take 2.
